Patient Participation Group

Welcome to the New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries’ Patient Participation Group (PPG)

The group’s role is:

  • to act as a liaison between patients, doctors, staff and other health-related organisations
  • to encourage self help
  • to promote patients' needs and interests
  • to support the Practice

New Queen Street and Stanground PPG is an independent group of volunteers who are all registered patients. They meet regularly, set their own agenda and activities and regularly liaise with staff at the practice, who attend their meetings. The group liaises regularly with practice managers to raise and understand any issues on behalf of patients. The Chairs of all Lakeside PPGs are also invited to attend a regular meeting with the Partnership’s Chief Executive to share issues and hear updates.

The PPG is currently recruiting for new members. If you would like to be a member please get in touch using our secure online form

  • Update on Flu Clinic 1st Thursday and 2nd Saturday from 8.30am - 2pm, the next 2 Saturdays, can attend if we wanted to help, vaccinated into November
  • 810 Flu vaccines and 793 Covid vaccines been given so far. Very positive messages received, Barry stated that he was in and out in 3 minutes
  • Becky is at Stanground and Lyndsay is at New Queen Street
  • RSV catch-up - stopped for now, fridge is full to capacity, nurses back on
  • Martin stated that 2 clinics had to go on waiting list as told previously that the nurse didn’t know about them and it wasn’t happening here, had to be 7 days after flu and covid vaccinations
  • Over 75’s eligible, invites sent by alphabetical surnames
  • 880 booked about 80 never turned up, reminder sent out, then a further 2 were sent to Stanground only, % uptake not known
  • 1 vaccine, under and over will be ordered next year
  • Over 65’s / vulnerable, more vaccinations ordered, under 65’s not so many uptakes, 3 text messages sent from 3rd October over 6 weeks
  • On Thursday, patients in the surgery were invited to have the flu vaccination, while they were there PPG members could be asking at both surgeries. Here the process is that patients come in at the far end of the building, have their jab then go to the waiting room where members of the PPG could have a stall in the corner and hopefully recruit more members before they go out of the main entrance
  • Changing new appointment rota has gone live, reviewing on Monday and the following Monday, face-to-face or a telephone call, pre bookable 10minutes per appointment
  • Ann stated she got feedback within 1 week
  • Anima block time per patient is for 30minutes, only used for blood test / smear test results
  • SystmOnline can order prescriptions but not on Anima, can use both systems
  • Margaret asked for a list of attendees at Anima courses at library
  • Several patients unable to get appointments as Anima is full to capacity seconds after going live at 8am
  • Still recruiting for Clinical Pharmacist, still having problems at Boots re prescriptions
  • Stanground recruiting 2 GP’s
  • Dr Greensmith was here for a 1year notation for a registrar, he completed that, he’s left
  • 2 articles re Anima - Need a poster for recruiting PPG members and amend post to remove Alison’s name so Barry’s name can be used
  • All Minutes to be sent to Lyndsay so she can upload them onto the website
  • Viewpoints from patients necessary
  • Peterborough District Hospital and Edith Cavell hospital phone numbers are both closed on the old website, Stamford website is OK, seems simple to use, we have based ours on this. When completed, Lyndsay will bring to PPG for update
  • 1 Physician Assistant, Helen our Social Prescriber works full time, based here at New Queen Street surgery but also goes to Stanground surgery
  • PCN - Primary Care Network,
  • Any incorrect info and will be dealt with by our Comms Team

Fundraising

  • We do not have any money or a bank account, we preferably need a Nationwide Community bank a/c
  • Treasurer to be appointed at next PPG meeting
  • Some equipment had been bought from previous fundraising / donations
  • Both New Queen Street and Stanground surgeries needs a 24hour ECG monitor
  • Ideas for fundraising were, have a cake stall in the corner of the waiting room with takings to be banked, survey forms
  • PPG week, 5days rota with a table in the corner of the waiting room, fill in surveys, nurses doing blood tests, weighing scales and a blood pressure machine. Ask Yaxley
  • Healthwatch with Roy Gerstner and Bob Wicks -100 delegates, 10 volunteers and 90 associates. Chaired by Stuart Francis, CEO of the Mayor Combined Authority, Senior Consultant from hospital, funded by local authorities, anyone can put our issues to views and concerns. Not for personal use. Volunteer to join Healthwatch as a rep for PPG rather than as a Councillor, Roy is our representative, by a show of hands, that was unanimous
  • Share to Community pages, promotion of New Queen Street by putting an item, 111 etc. in a local magazine such as Fens and / or Discovering Whittlesey, social media - Facebook PPG page

Any Other Business

  • Irene, Peter and Robert along with a couple of others attended the Anima course at the library, sadly neither of the mobiles or the laptop were able to access Anima. We were told to ask the practice to get access for records and test results. Download the NHS App
  • Sandra stated that one of the receptionists is really rude. Additional training next month
  • The Chair thanked everyone for attending, meeting closed at 12.45pm
