NHS Health Checks
Patients are encouraged to book their free NHS Health Check at New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries when invited.
An NHS Health Check is for adults aged 40 to 74 to spot early signs of conditions like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes, or dementia and should happen every five years.
The risk of developing conditions like these increases with age and can be influenced by lifestyle choices, including drinking alcohol, smoking, eating unhealthily, and being inactive.
To get a free NHS Health Check at New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries, patients must be aged between 40 to 74 years, not have had a health check in the last five years, and not already be receiving treatment for certain pre-existing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
All eligible patients will receive a letter, text, email, or message on the NHS App to let them know that they can book an appointment.
Patients may be asked to use the Health Kiosk to measure their height, weight, and blood pressure before their appointment.
All patients can make an appointment to see a clinician by calling New Queen Street on 01733 204 611 or Stanground on 01733 568 569
Dr Dan Dhanushan, GP Partner at New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries said: “As we age, our risk of developing conditions like these increases, and a health check-up can help to find potential health problems early so they can be treated quickly. A check-up can take around 20 to 30 minutes, and you will be asked some questions, have your measurements taken, and a blood sample taken. Based on your results, you may be offered advice to help lower your risk of developing conditions like these. Think of it as a 'MOT' – making sure your body is running smoothly. Please make an appointment as soon as you are invited.”
